Canal de Garonne, BaïseItinerary
Agen...Valence-sur-BaïseFrance's second longest canal bridge (after Briare), it was built under the supervision of Jean-Baptiste de Baudre and Jean Gratien de Job. Crossing a bridge on board your canal boat, high above the Garonne, is a unique experience.
Buzet-sur-Baïse stretches across the wide plain where the Baïse joins the Garonne. Its geographical position facilitates trade, particularly in wine. Vine growing is therefore very present on the terraces of Buzet!
The Mas d'Agenais is one of the oldest villages in Lot-et-Garonne. Occupied since Gallo-Roman times, the site has more than 2000 years of history and has yielded priceless treasures such as the Venus of the Mas d'Agenais.
As you cruise along the Baïse, tie up your Pénichette at Vianne, a lively town that's typical of the region. You’ll love its range of markets, festivals and entertainment and its fascinating architecture.
Aboard your self-drive boat, glide below the old bridge of Nérac, which has been standing proud for more than 500 years. Afterwards the beauty and history of this magnificent town is a real treat. Make sure you take a tour of Henri IV’s château.
Stop at Condom to visit the Armagnac Museum and learn the secrets of this famous brandy. This might be a good time to buy a few bottles before you get back on board your canal boat.
