4 remarkable gardens accessible by Pénichette

France is renowned for its natural beauty and varied landscapes. Among the country’s hidden treasures are the remarkable gardens that border the waterways. These carefully tended gardens offer a real enchantment for visitors, combining landscape art with the tranquility of the canals. Our team of travel experts has put together a selection of four of them, accessible by Pénichette.

Garden of Château de Flaugergues

The Château de Flaugergues in Montpellier is located in the Camargue region, just 20 minutes from our base in Lattes. The château’s garden is a magnificent example of an English and French garden, with shady paths, elegant sculptures and surrounding vineyards. A visit to this garden offers an insight into the art of living in Languedoc.

The park and garden of Château de Pennautier

3h30 from our base in Bram, Near Carcassonne, along the Canal du Midi. The park, remarkable for its size and location, is a magnificent witness to its time: “à la française” designed by Le Nôtre in the 17th century, “à l’anglaise” in the 19th century, it is today also a reflection of the present. The part near the château was restored in the French style in the 20th century. 1st prize in the Aude’s flower gardens in 2016 and 2017, it has just been awarded the prestigious “Remarkable Garden” label.

Le parc du Moulin à Tan

On the Yonne River, in the town of Sens, 5h30 by boat from our base in Joigny, you’ll find the Parc du Moulin à Tan. It includes a succession of landscaped scenes with different vocations. You’ll discover the arboretum, animal enclosures, a wild rose garden, children’s play areas, water birds, a wildlife observation area… Test your sense of direction and discover the Parc du Moulin à Tan and its nooks and crannies in an original way! As a family (children aged 6 and over) or with friends, take part in one of the Park’s eight newly installed permanent orienteering courses!

Yves Rocher Botanical Garden

On the Nantes-Brest canal, in La Gacilly, 3 hours’ sail from Saint-Martin-sur-Oust. Between the bamboo grove and the alleys of the French garden, come and discover the plants used in cosmetics and perfumery. Admire the plants emblematic of the Yves Rocher brand – calendula, chamomile, cornflower, arnica, etc. – and discover unique collections: its national collection of Armoises, its ethnobotanical and exotic collections, plants from Yves Rocher’s international plant chains, fragrant Pelargoniums, etc.

The remarkable gardens lining France’s waterways offer a unique experience that combines the natural beauty of the landscape with creative landscape art. Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast, a nature lover or simply in search of tranquility, these gardens are sure to amaze. So don’t hesitate to plan a visit along the canals and discover these veritable green treasures that will delight your senses.
